

Wylla M. Hunter, 99, loving wife, devoted mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was born on June 20, 1925, in Collinsville, Illinois to Ira Way Miller and Pauline Adelia Clark Miller. Wylla was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Hunter, Sr., parents, and siblings, Mildred Easton, Reah Benner, and Cora (“Coby”) Ragouzis. She lived in Beech Grove, Indiana for approximately 75 years.
Wylla was a 1944 graduate of Newton Community High School in Newton (Jasper County), Illinois. During high school, Wylla was the Editor-in-Chief of her school newspaper, an assistant librarian, and a typist for the yearbook. She was also involved with the Girls’ Glee Club, Debate, Travel Club, and the Home Economics Club.
Wylla moved to Indianapolis from Montrose, Illinois in June 1944. She became immediately and happily employed as a secretary, known for her accurate and rapid typing and shorthand skills. She eventually worked for Eli Lilly and Company. She married Charles in September 1946 after he returned from service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. They were married for 68 years until Charles’ passing in 2015.
Wylla became a homemaker during 1950 when she gave birth to her first child. During those years, Wylla engaged with several ongoing community activities including supporting the Beech Grove Jaycees, the Republican Club, the Beech Grove Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle within the Methodist Church, and schools’ parent-teacher associations. She returned to an executive secretarial role in 1966 and worked for B & H Tool and Machine Co., owned by the Huser family, until 1991. In her later years, she also worked for the Marion County Election Board. Her extroverted personality also served her well when gift-wrapping for Von Maur in her late 70’s and 80’s. At all times, her cherished roles were Mother and Grandmother.
Wylla was a founding member in 1968 of the Beech Grove (Lamda Chapter) of Psi Iota Xi, a philanthropic sorority, and continued as an active member until 2022, while she remained a supporting member until her passing.
Throughout her life, Wylla continued to enjoy writing. She authored stories and songs and served as the historian for Psi Iota Xi. She was known for creative writing, and she valued any writings of others. Wylla was always doing something for someone, from writing poems and stories to baking banana bread and brownies to knitting sweaters, Christmas stockings, and baby booties for people she loved. Wylla was treasured for her warmth and ability to connect with others, making fast friends, being fun and joyful, and deeply loving others.
Wylla is survived by her son, Charles W. Hunter, Jr. (Claudia), daughter, Mary Jo Wedding (Steve), four grandchildren, Laura Jean Hunter Seidensticker, Kathryn Mary Hunter Pospisil (Jason), Mary Gillian Wedding Leitner (Charles), and John Hunter Wedding, and great grandchildren, Bennett Charles Seidensticker, Anna Kate Seidensticker, and Hunter Charles Pospisil. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place on June 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the historic Ambassador House located in Heritage Park, Fishers, Indiana, at 10598 Eller Road, Fisher, Indiana 46038. A private burial was provided by Little & Sons on April 16, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 126th Street, Carmel, Indiana 46033 or Psi Iota Xi, Lambda Chapter (scholarship fund), 1196 Churchman Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana 46107.
