Lola Dortch Carter

Lola Dortch Carter, 92 of Jackson, passed away September 29, 2015 at Jackson Healthcare Facility. She was born October 28, 1922. A lifelong member of River Hill Baptist Church, she served for many years as the church secretary. She worked at Vanity Fair Mills for 37 years as a seamstress and was an avid fisherman and gardener. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stancel P. Carter; son, Stancel Pete Carter; daughter, Gloria Hoven; parents, William Burtram Dortch and Carrie Sheffield Dortch; brother, Edward “Bud” Dortch and sisters, Mable Carter, Lucy Lee Reeves and Lucille Horton. She is survived by her son, Gaines Carter of Salitpa, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 2 p.m. at River Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilton Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Bobby Reeves, Billy Reeves, Harold Hoven, Bill Dortch, Danny Hoven and Stewart Hoven.
