Bertie Redell Warren Weems, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 20, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born on June 29, 1933, in Scott County, Mississippi, to the late George and Ollie Mae Wicker Warren. Bertie married Percy Weems on March 26, 1954, and they were married for 35 years until Percy's passing in 1989.
Bertie dedicated herself to being a loving mother to her three daughters, Wanda, Wendy, and Tammy. Wanda's passing in 2019 left her heartbroken, but she found comfort in her love for Wendy, Tammy, and her grandchildren. Bertie held her nine grandchildren dear to her heart and never missed an opportunity to tell them how special they were and how much she loved them.
Bertie expressed her love for others through her cooking, which was her greatest passion. Her family and friends eagerly anticipated holidays, where she was known to make festive meals and desserts, always wanting to make everyone's favorite menu item. Bertie also had a talent for gardening, taking pride in the beauty of her flowers.
In her 70s, she discovered a new passion for painting and found joy in expressing her creativity and sharing her paintings with others.
As a cherished member of the Flora, Mississippi community since 1978, Bertie touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and warm smile.
Bertie Redell Weems will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her husband and daughter in heaven. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Bertie was preceded in death by her sisters, Katie Davis, Bessie Price, Jewell Butler, and her brothers, Ethel Warren and Bobby Warren. Bertie is survived by her daughters, Wendy (Todd), Tammy (Mark); sisters, Nora C. Seals and Nancy Hollingsworth; and grandchildren, Jon Michael Mathis, Kailey Mathis Mosley (Brandon), Jeffrey Pounds, Christian Pounds, Katherine Pounds Bearden (TJ), Harrison Pounds, McKenzie Amis, Grayson Amis, and Bella Amis; and son-in-law Mike Mathis.
