A native of Connecticut, Cappy moved to Mississippi in 1980 to teach swimming and gymnastics at the State Street YWCA in Jackson, work she continued until 1992. Her work focused specifically on at-risk children and children with special needs. After the State Street YWCA, Cappy organized the Mermaids, a local swimming club for disabled and senior women.
Before coming to Mississippi, Cappy worked at YWCA and Girl Scout communities in New York, Connecticut, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Florida. A graduate of George School in Pennsylvania, from which she internalized a Quaker approach to spirituality that served her well for the rest of her life, Cappy went on to attend Keuka College, graduating with a B.A. in English in 1961, and subsequently taught physical education for several years at Spence School in New York City. Cappy was also a competitive swimmer, winning numerous regional medals.
Cappy is predeceased by her parents, Nelson and Mary Page of Connecticut. She is survived by her beloved wife and longtime partner, Carol Carwile Page-Head of Jackson; her sons, Tom (Deirdre) Head of Jackson and Jim (Kathy) Head of Brandon; the grandson she helped raise, Anthony (Kim) Gannon of Delaware; her brothers John (Cindy) and David (Lee) Page; and a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, among them her niece Rory (Abe) Page of Montana, who was born on Cappy’s 50th birthday.
