On the 18th of September, 2021, Davis Ray Johns was called home to be with our Lord. Born January 5th, 1936 to Warren Melvin Johns and Naomi Katherine Davis Johns, Davis, lovingly referred to as D.R., began his life. As a boy, he dreamed of becoming a baseball player. As a young man, he served meritoriously in the United States Army. After completing his enlistment in the armed forces, he met and married the love of his life, Nettie Pearl Cargile. Together they built an honorable life, settling down in Clinton, Mississippi and raising two sons and one daughter. During this time, D.R. began his career as a postal carrier, and due to his strong work ethic and motivation to succeed, worked his way up to the lead supervisory position. He and his wife participated as active members of Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where they ensured that the teachings of Christ were instilled into the hearts of their children. D.R. maintained a lifetime membership with the National Association of Letter Carriers, receiving several awards for his service. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, D.R. immersed himself in learning computer skills, staying up on current affairs, working in his yard, and listening to country music, (he loved Freddy Fender, Roy Clark, Willie Nelson and Ray Price).
D.R. will be remembered and celebrated as a devoted husband, a strong and loving father, a proud grandfather, a dedicated worker, and abundant provider. D.R. was a man who lived his life righteously and admirably.
D.R. is reunited in glory with his son, Davis R. Johns, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Nettie Pearl Cargile Johns; son, Ruston M. Johns (Rachel); daughter, Carol M. Johns Reeves (Jon); grandson, Peyton Tubb (Jade); granddaughters, Taylor Rae Johns Wilson (Wesley), Shelby Catherine Johns Grey (Caleb), and Kailey Reeves.
