Rev. George Todd Currey Sr.

George Todd Currey, Sr of Montgomery, Alabama, died Sunday, July 3, 2022. He was born in Smithville, Mississippi, May 1, 1928. Upon graduating high school, George enlisted in the military and served in occupied Japan at the end of World War II. He went on to graduate from Millsaps College and then Chandler School of Theology. He married Mary Nell Williams in 1953. George served the United Methodist Mississippi Conference for over 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Montgomery.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Nell Williams Currey. He leaves behind their 3 children, Angela Currey Irvin (Coy), Camille Currey Irvin (John), and George Todd Currey, Jr and 7 grandchildren, Allison Irvin Godwin (Michael), Elizabeth Irvin Boyd (Blair), John Pace Irvin, George Russell Currey (Haley), Caroline Coy Irvin, Olivia Currey Stinebaugh (Zach) and Emily Lynn Currey. He was blessed to have 5 great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind sisters Francis Currey Schaffer, Cindy Currey Laundhardt and Glenda Currey.

After Mary Nell’s passing George married Betty Conner Currey in 2001. They were married for 15 years until Betty’s passing in 2016. He leaves behind Betty’s children and who were very much family, David Conner (Claudia Schmitt), Tommy Conner (Lisa), Syd Conner (DeVonne), and Beth Conner Nicholson (Joe) and 10 grandchildren, Becky Conner Anderson (Mark), James Conner (Hae Min Lee), Cathy Conner Smith (Troy), Jennifer Conner Coursey, Nicholas Conner, Bladon Conner (Pablo Arancibia), Brooke Conner, John Nicholson, Mike Nicholson (Layla Khan), Bonnie Nicholson Carothers (Owen).

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Lakewood Memorial Park Funeral Home, Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be held the same day at 1:00 p.m. at Lakewood.
