Dr. Wooten made a lasting impact through a life devoted to service, learning, and the steady guidance of others. He served as a Professor at Mississippi College from 1990 to 2021, and he also answered a calling beyond the classroom as a pastor and counselor—roles that reflected a deep commitment to faith, wisdom, and compassionate care for those around him. He lived in Clinton, Mississippi.
On May 13, 1972, he married Rhonda Sherrod in Bells, Tennessee. Together they built a life rooted in devotion and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Ward Wooten, and his mother, Anna Katherine Wooten.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Sherrod Wooten of Clinton, Mississippi; his son, Erik Wooten (Monique Rollins) of Clinton, Mississippi; his grandchildren, Aidan Wooten, Zoe Wooten, and Natalie Wooten; and his sister, Cathy Black.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on May 5, 2026, at Northside Baptist Church, 1475 E Northside Dr, Clinton, MS 39056. A Committal Service will be held on May 5, 2026, at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi 39209.
