Joan McKay Loftin went to her heavenly home, surrounded by her loving family, on December 29, 2024. Born in Choctaw County to Richard E. McKay and Annie Hamric McKay, she was 94 years old. She was preceded by her husband of fifty-three years, Jack Taylor Loftin, and her son, Van Taylor Loftin. She is survived by her son, Jay Michael Loftin (Laurie) and grandchildren, Lance Taylor Loftin (Caroline) and Anna Loftin Belk (David), and great grandchildren, March Taylor Loftin and John Oliver Belk. And her loving brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Winnie McKay and her beautiful nieces and nephews.
Joan McKay Loftin worked for over thirty three years for banks in the Jackson area making life long friends from First Federal, Unifirst, and Trustmark banks. Her spiritual home was Alta Woods and Van Winkle Methodist Churches where her family was blessed with warm and loving congregations who walked with her most of her life. In her last years, unable to leave home, her passion and love for the homeless and the ministries of Alta Woods continued through her support and prayers.
We want to thank our dear friends at Alta Woods and Brother Eddie, Southern Home Care sitters, and our hospice nurses and caregivers at Baptist Hospital. And to her dear friends at Alta Woods and her dear friends who sat with her, we are so grateful.
In lieu of flowers, please support Mimi's love for the marginalized and homeless in Jackson by supporting Alta Woods Methodist Church's homeless and food pantry ministry, at AWUMC, 109 Alta Woods Blvd. 39204.
