John Clayton Kabbes passed away peacefully on October 13, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. While it brings us the greatest personal sadness, we find comfort in our faith and long for our eternal reunion.
John was born in Jackson, Mississippi on June 23, 1959. He was a graduate of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and Mississippi State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Business and Industry and a Master in Business Administration. Owner of Blue Ribbon Kennels and Bear Creek Cypress, John began his career with one dog, an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion to succeed.
To know John was to know a good time and a good laugh. His infectious personality could elicit a smile from anyone. John was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing. Upon his passing a friend posted: “I’d hate to be a turkey in heaven tonight!”
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Theodore and Martha Thomas Kabbes. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Carol Stockman Kabbes; sons, John Clayton Kabbes, Jr. (Tatum Turan) and Samuel Hunter Kabbes (Courtney Walker); grandchildren, Carter, Jase and Graham Kabbes. John also leaves behind his sisters, Carmen Kabbes Goforth (Ken) and Lila Kabbes Strode (Chip) and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends.
