Larry Neal Lowery was born in November 1944 in Hattiesburg, MS to Claude R Lowery and Pallie Williamson Lowery. He had one sister who died soon after her birth. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister.
Larry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judi Blount Lowery; son, Shannon (Anna); daughter, Stacy Fancher (Jesse); grandson, James Fancher (Morgan); granddaughters, Jesslyn Fancher, Kendall Lowery, Karson Lowery and beautiful new great grandson, Landon Fancher.
Larry grew up in Hattiesburg, Mendenhall and eventually landed in Jackson where he met Judi at Hardy Jr High School. They graduated together in 1964 from Provine High School and later attended Hinds Community College. They soon married and began their life together.
Larry began his career at Hunt & Whitaker Sporting Goods and eventually bought the business and grew it to include 3 stores in the Jackson Area. After selling the stores, he began a career at Hesselbein Tire Company on JR Lynch Street in Jackson. He was a top salesman there for over 20 years before retiring in 2005.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt and boat. He was a charter member of The Jackson Bass Club and for 16 years was tournament chairman for the Have A Heart Bass Classic and on the committee for that tournament all 23 years that the tournament was in existence. It later became the Fallen Firemans’ Charity Tournament and is now the Catch A Dream event.
Larry taught many young people to ski, hunt and fish and enjoy the outdoors. He loved sharing his home at Eagle Lake with friends and family as well. Larry traveled the country shooting skeet and was the 1971 Individual Skeet Shooting World Champion competing in San Antonio Texas. He and his Family are members of Hinds Hunting Club on Kings Point Island in Vicksburg and have been since 1973. There he shared his love of hunting with his wife, children and grandchildren where most of them harvested their very first deer.
Larry rarely missed activities or events that his children were involved in and it carried through to his grandchildren as well. He could often be seen eating popcorn and silently cheering on children at McCluer Academy and then later at Central Hinds Academy.
Larry attended First Baptist Church in Raymond MS and was involved in his Sunday school class and missions for a time. He loved country music and for a time his motorcycle. He and Judi had so many regular things they would do together. They would have Christmas Eve supper at Crechale’s Restaurant in Jackson for more years than she can remember. Larry was a generous man who loved large, loved to laugh and tell stories. He was the life of the party. His family meant the most to him and he will be missed greatly. Please remember him fondly and speak of him often.
