If my memory serves me well, I do believe that Lyman lived next door to me on Evergreen Street around '52 maybe '54, in the Brassfield's upstairs garage apartment. I remember that he was a No.1 heart-throb of the girl's at school, and it shattered them when I revealed that he was MARRIED!

Lyman was one of my closest cousins agewise. He teased and got me in trouble a lot when we were growing up but we loved each other anyway. I will always remember him fondly and forgive him for having Howard on the golf course when Joe was born.

Lyman was a man whom Haller loved and respected so very much. I know their was rejoicing in Heaven when they saw one another. I loved Lyman. He was a dear, sweet friend. I will miss him!

I knew Lyman not only from Ole Miss football but knew him personally from our days together at the Natchez Trace Golf Club in Saltillo (Tupelo) Ms.
We played golf together many times and Lyman was a very good golfer.
He is now playing golf at the heavenly golf club in the sky.
Thanks for the memories Lyman you will be greatly missed.

Our Hellums' extended family was always proud that Lyman was part of us and everyone who knew him spoke highly of him. He will be missed. May God bless all of you in this time of sorrow.

Cliff and Kaye, you guys are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. Dad is now healthy, happy and home eternally. Still remember a few occasions when I had to hear him describe the dismantling of my Tide. He was very good at what he did and always classy!! Maybe him, Coach Vaught and coach Bryant can share a few old memories. God bless my friends and hope to see you tomorrow.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. He was always active in family get togethers and was especially close to his cousin J.T. Hellums.

I just read of the passing of one of the most beloved figures in Ole Miss Rebel history.Lyman Hellums was for so many of us Ole Miss fans the most consistent and dependable voice in Rebel fandom,both in good times and bad.After the play was called Lyman added insight to what we had just heard and in some cases made sense out of what had just transpired.Through it all...victories,losses,All-Americans and underdogs, Lyman's voice was sure and steady and just plain good to hear.He was teamed with some fine play by play announcers in his career in a state that that produced legends like Stan (and  the great Jack Cristil) but there was no better "color man" on any broadcast around.He was my favorite. Many years ago I introduced myself to him after a game in Jackson and told him how much I admired his work.In the years that followed I had the opportunity to know him further thanks to my musician friends Cliff (Hellums) and Lyman's grandson Brent who would share with me his latest jokes or observations on the sporting life.I will forever cherish the memory of playing music for his 80th birthday party where he was surrounded by his friends and family. My thoughts and prayers are with them, as well as my gratitude for their sharing Lyman,and his voice, with generations of Rebel fans.Hotty Toddy,Sir.Always.

Farewell old friend,  hail fellow, well met!   The decades will come and go,  but we won't see your like again.  Thanks for all those wonderful Fall Saturdays in which you brought Ole Miss football to life for Rebel fans throughout Dixie and beyond.   You had a keen eye coupled with an ability,  in a few words,  to capture the moment with what you had to say. When you heard Lyman's voice, you knew you had the Ole Miss football radio network.
