Martha Mills Sawyer, aged 82, a resident of Clinton Mississippi passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 9, 2022. Martha was born on February 7, 1940 in Kosciusko Mississippi to the late Tom and Esther Mills.
She attended Holmes Junior College and graduated from Mississippi State University. Martha taught English in Attala County Schools, Philadelphia Public Schools, and retired from Hillcrest Christian School in Jackson.
She was an active member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church since 1971 where she continued to show her life-long love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Martha enjoyed gardening , walking daily at the Clinton Healthplex, and playing bunko with the same group of ladies for the last 29 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Jerry Sawyer and her sister, Mary Tom Vance. Her daughters, Suzanne Sawyer of New York and Beth Smith of Birmingham (David). Her grandchildren, Sawyer Smith, Caroline Barrow (Blake), Frances Smith, and her great granddaughter, Jane Smith.
She has a wonderful extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. including Brooke Maier (Darin), Windham Vance (Sabina), Ashley Turner (Brett), Angela Sawyer and Mikaela Ladd.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until 10:45 am on Monday June 13, 2022 at Lakewood Funeral Home at 6011 Clinton Boulevard, with a funeral service following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials may be sent to French Camp Academy or to the Special Needs Ministry at Morrison Heights Baptist Church.
