

Mary Pearl Craig Denson went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2015. She and her twin sister, Katie Merle Latham, were born on January 26, 1922 in Scott County to the late G.P. and Slonia Kitchings Craig. Mrs. Denson graduated from Ludlow High School, earned a BA degree from Belhaven University, and a Masters degree from Mississippi College. She taught business education in high school 28 years and college 10 years, and conducted workshops for Mississippi State Personnel Board for 16 years.
Mrs. Denson is survived by her daughter Merleen D. Ivey (Jerry Walton), and grandsons Craig Ivey of Huntsville, AL, and Ben Ivey (Leah) of Brandon, MS. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her delight was teaching, cooking, sewing, making porcelain dolls, researching, and entertaining. She published two books about her family and life: "100-Year Span of the Kitchings Clan" and "Memories." Mrs. Denson was an active member of Parkway Baptist Church for over 60 years.
During her teaching career Mrs. Denson served as a member of the Mississippi Business Education Association, Jackson Business Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Mary Gardner Homemakers, and Alta Woods Sixty-Plus. She was listed in Who's Who Among Outstanding Educators of the South.
Mrs. Denson was preceded in death by her husband, William James Denson, after 69 years of marriage; sisters: twin—Katie Merle Latham, Nannie Price, Ruby Merchant, Tressie Mae Craig, and Leola Wallace; and her brothers: Walter, J.E. "Eddie," Clifton, and Gary. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
