Myrtle was born April 27, 1930, in Scotland Community, Yazoo County, Mississippi to Emma Jones McGinty and Eli Hood McGinty, Jr. She married Earl Theodore Isonhood on August 13, 1947. These two were each other’s devoted companions and friends during their forty-three years of marriage. They were blessed with three children: Janet Carol Thomas, Danny Kaye Isonhood, and Thomas Earl Isonhood.
Myrtle was a lifelong learner, earning an Associate Degree in Nursing (Hinds Junior College), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Mississippi College), a Master's of Science in Nursing (University of Southern Mississippi), and a Master's of Community Counseling (Mississippi College). She was also an avid reader, loving history and music as well.
Myrtle’s work career included positions as an office nurse for Dr. Albert Gore, Dr. Robert Ireland and Dr. J. K. Oates. She also worked as a staff nurse at Hinds General Hospital, University of Mississippi Medical Center, and Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. Myrtle was also a nursing instructor at Hinds Community College and at Phillips Junior College in the Medical Administrative Assistants Program. She also worked at Community Counseling Services in Starkville, Mississippi as a mental health consultant.
Myrtle was a devoted Christian, having deep convictions and an unwavering faith. She was a member of several churches in the Jackson metropolitan area over the years including Van Winkle Baptist Church and Burch Hill Baptist Church. She was a farm girl at heart and gardening was her passion. During her life, Myrtle had a positive influence on others, strengthening and encouraging everyone she met. Most of all, she loved her family and instilled strong values in her children. She will be dearly missed, and forever in our hearts.
Myrtle is survived by her children, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Mavis Lloyd McGinty Thornton, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in January 1990.

A visitation for Myrtle will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM.
