Nelda Mathis

Nelda was born in Clarks, Louisiana on November 1, 1939 to the late Artie Ray Morris and Mecom Malloy Fisher.

Nelda cherished her time with family and friends. The Mathis home was a favorite gathering place for friends and extended family. The result of Nelda’s love for cooking was enjoyed by all that visited the Mathis home. Nelda had a special relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren that made the Mathis home very special.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Mathis; son, Charlie Mathis; and grandson, Casey Andrews.

Nelda is survived by her son, Michael Mathis (Misty) of Clinton; daughters, Jeanine Westrope (Kenny) of Hazlehurst; Lisa Edwards (Brad) of Clinton; Dana Mathis of Atlanta; siblings, Frank Morris (Nancy), Larry Morris (Devette), Mickey Sue Morris, Freddie Jo Cain (Charles), Bill Morris, Beverly Singleton, Edna Ruth Woodcock, Dorothy Morris, Jerry Morris and Steven Morris (Michelle); nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Lakewood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
