

Redell King Covington, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior, January 9, 2012 at Trinity Health and Rehab in Clinton, MS. Visitation will be from 9am to 11am Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Wright and Ferguson, Downtown Jackson. A graveside service will be held at 3pm in Straight Bayou Baptist Church Cemetery in Anguilla, MS.
Mrs. Covington was born and raised in the Delta community of Straight Bayou. She graduated from Silver City High School and afterwards worked at the Army/Air Corp Base in Sebring, FL during WWII.
After marriage they lived in several cities before making Jackson home for over 50 years, where she worked for the Department of the Army at Hawkins Field and then retiring from Ms Action for Progress.
Even though retired, she continued to be active as a long time member at Boling Street United Methodist Church until closure and then joined Van Winkle United Methodist Church. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Radiant Chapter, where she was a Past Worthy Matron and held several officer positions in the MS Grand Chapter. She was a loving mother being very active with her children. She was a den mother for Scouts, involved at MS Baptist School as a room mother, booster club and PTA member. She was very devoted to making sure that her children were afforded every opportunity to succeed in life with love, integrity and character.
Family, friends and community were important to her and she was always very selfless and generous to others around her as she lived as an example of Christ to all around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Elizabeth (Lizzie) King; sister, Ovene K Grimm; husband, Cecil L. Covington, Sr.; daughter, Cecilia Ann Covington Smith.
She was survived by her son, Cecil L. (Diane) Covington, Jr. and grandson, Patrick Covington of Jackson; brother, David Lee (Billie Doris) King of Anguilla, MS and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Trinity Health and Rehab and Hospice Advantage for their special care and love.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Van Winkle United Methodist Church, Jackson, MS or Straight Bayou Baptist Church, Anguilla, MS
