Ginny was born in Jackson, MS, to Pete and Lucretia Frierson on June 15, 1943. She went to school in Jackson, MS, graduating from Provine High School with the class of 1961. She married John W. Salter, Jr., on September 5, 1964, at Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS; she then went on to graduate from Mississippi State College for Women with a degree in Elementary Education in 1965. Ginny and John lived in several places, including Flagstaff, AZ; Jacksonville, FL; Atlanta, GA; and Nashville, TN, before finally settling permanently in Jackson, MS. She facilitated the opening of the interior decorating department for the family business, Frierson Building Supply, where she worked as an interior decorator for many years.
Ginny attended Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, MS, for more than 20 years, where she and John made many dear friends. Anyone who knew Ginny can attest to her ability to make friends with a grizzly bear. She was a charming southern lady who never met a stranger and would fiercely defend those she loved. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and her “John Salter.” She loved to cook, watch Hallmark movies, and decorate for Christmas. She was truly “one of a kind,” and her loss is deeply felt by those who love her.
Ginny is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Lucretia Frierson. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Salter; son, Mike Salter; daughter, Stacie Brinson (Jim). She has 5 grandchildren: Scarlett Salter, Katie Brown, Sophie Salter, Kellar Brown, and Hayden Salter.
