Arrie Wood Edwards

Arrie was born on July 29, 1930 in Allsboro, AL to the late Thomas Gilbert and Bertha Sparks Wood. She was educated at Florence State University and earned her Masters Degree from Memphis State University. She was united in marriage to Dr. George W. Edwards on August 18, 1950. She was an Educator and spent most of her career teaching Chemistry with Jackson-Central Merry High School. She also taught for a short time at Medina High School and Lambuth College.

Arrie was also a member of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George W. Edwards; grandson, Thomas George Edwards; brother, James M. Wood; nephews, Michael Wood and James Harold Wood; and sister in law, Mary Margaret Edwards.

She is survived by three children, George Thomas Edwards, MD (wife, Taina Hampton Edwards), Trina Katherine Edwards, and Arrie Beth Edwards; grandchildren, Samuel Paul Edwards, Joseph Grant Edwards (wife, Sarah Gray Williams Edwards), Laura Edwards Smith (Devin); great grandchildren, Kaylee Skye Edwards (Austin Ross), PFC Hayden Terry, USMC (Hannah), Samuel Kaid Edwards, Cyrus Thomas Edwards, Keylee Star Edwards, Kiersten Briley Smith, Levi Grant Edwards, Emerson Kate Smith, and Lincoln Gray Edwards; great great granddaughter, Izabella Skye Ross; sister in law, Charlotte Wood Herston; and neice, Melissa Wood Sugg (Joe).

Graveside services for Mrs. Edwards will be conducted on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Travis Grimsley officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Red Cross.
