

Betty Fesmire, beloved wife and widow of Cecil A. Fesmire Jr., former Postmaster of Jackson, passed away peacefully Wednesday November 14, 2014 in Athens, TN where she lived since 2009 having resided in Jackson for the previous 63 years.
Betty was born June 29, 1921 in Bedford, Ohio and was the youngest of 8 children. She met the love of her life Cecil during WWII while he was stationed in Cleveland, OH and was married to him for 63 years.
Betty was a long time member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church in Jackson. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the choir, and an active member of the United Methodist Women where she was an integral part of the annual church bazaar. While in Athens she attended Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
Betty was an avid gardener and was well known for her African Violets. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She was a devoted wife and mother, avid reader, and enjoyed counted cross stitch.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Cecil A. Fesmire, Jr., her grandson Ben Giffen Helena, AL, sisters Isabell (Earl) Brecksville, OH, Marge Generes (George) of New Orleans, LA, Martha Donelson of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Ruth Thomas of Miami, FL brothers Ralph Grossnickle (Rose) of Brecksville, OH, Bob Grossnickle (Bernie) of Aurora, OH, Herbert Grossnickle of Hialiah, FL.
She leaves behind 3 children, Martha Giffen (Jim) of Helena, AL, Austin Fesmire (Kathy) of Athens, TN, Anita Matlock (Darrell) of Jackson, TN and grandchildren Jimmy Giffen (Helena, AL), Will Giffen (New York, NY), Alex Shelton (Will), Morgan Fesmire, Hayden Fesmire, and Isaac Fesmire all of Athens, TN.
Her service will be performed by her pastor and grandson by marriage the Rev. Will Shelton. Service will be at George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home on N. Highland Saturday November 15, 2014 at 11am. Family will receive friends beginning at 10am until time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Keith Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1, Athens, TN, 37371-0001 or to Forest Heights United Methodist Church in Jackson.
