

He was an airplane mechanic in the United States Navy, and traveled the world on an aircraft carrier. After military service, he was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until his retirement.
He leaves behind children Tim Melton of Medina, TN, Ronnie Melton (Andra Hedrick) of Nashville, TN and Debbie (Billy) Milligan of Michie, TN; grandchildren Scott Harbin of Nashville, TN, Mallory Melton (Eric Ray) of Bowling Green, KY and Holly Melton of Medina, TN; sisters Vera Maness of Spokane, WA, Ruby Williams of Jackson, TN, Doris (Joey) McKee of Hendersonville, TN and Nancy Holton of Southaven, MS; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Gene Melton, niece Barbara Melton, nephew Frankie Melton and brother-in-law, Bob Holton.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on September 20, 2013, in the North Chapel of George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., with the Reverend Jerry Welch officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson, TN.
