

Charles Wesley Brewer, age 96 of Jackson, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Northbrooke Health Care in Jackson.He was born on March 3, 1920 in Jackson, TN to the late William Thomas and Geneva Blanche Webb Brewer. On March 29, 1941 he married Gladys Nell King. He and Gladys were active members of the former Bemis Pentecostal Church where he served as a trustee for many years. Charles currently attended Love and Truth Church South Campus.Charles served in the United States Army during WWII. He was deployed to Europe for 31 months. He was reactivated during the Korean War and served in the National Guard for many years. Charles served five years as a member of Jackson Police Department and was recently honored as the oldest surviving member of the Jackson Police Department. Following his military and police career, he became a master builder of custom homes around the Jackson area for forty years.Charles was a devoted husband, loving father, and steadfast church leader. He enjoyed attending and supporting Union University Bulldogs Basketball team. He will be remembered by his love of telling his war experiences and enjoying a home-cooked meal.In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Nell King Brewer; two brothers, Howard and W.T. Brewer, and one sister, Bernice Ferguson.He is survived by his son, Charles R. Brewer (Linda); two grandsons, Wes Brewer (Michelle) and Colby Brewer; four great grandchildren, Keegan, Briley, Owen, and Sam. He is also survived by his brother in law, Onus Ray King (Shirley) who lovingly devoted his time and energy to caring for Charles in recent years.The family will receive family and friends on Monday evening, June 13, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel with Pastors William "Bill" Luther and Chris Smith officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Hollywood Cemetery.Active pallbearers to serve will be Wes Brewer, Colby Brewer, Onus King, David Graves, Moss Miller, and Clint Brasher.Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby and Steve King.George A.
