Debbie was born on August 20th, 1968 to Maurice and Glynda Hays.
She was an active student and cheerleader who graduated from Southside High School in the class of 1986 being voted Most Likely to Succeed and Miss Senior Class.
Debbie followed her passion for education by attending Jackson State and Union University. She was acknowledged as Female Student of the Year at Jackson State and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority at Union University. Debbie graduated with a Masters Degree in Education from Union University.
Debbie, or as many have called her, Mrs. Henson, was a very impactful elementary school teacher for the Jackson-Madison County School System for 30 years. She changed the lives of many people and students. Debbie considered teaching the children of her former students to be a highlight of her career.
Debbie married the love of her life, Robert David Henson, on December 2nd, 1989. Bobby and Debbie shared 33 beautiful years of marriage. They had two children, Garrett Henson-Hinck (Tim) and Gabrielle Henson Sprinkle. Garrett and Gabbie were her entire world and she was very proud of them both. Debbie was also more recently known as Gigi to her granddaughter, Hazel Irene Sprinkle. “Hazel Bug” was her pride and joy.
With a huge heart full of love and compassion, Debbie left this world a better place as she spread love, education, and encouragement to so many people.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Bobby Henson; son, Garrett Henson-Hinck (Tim); daughter Gabrielle Sprinkle; granddaughter, Hazel Sprinkle; parents Maurice and Glynda Hays; brother Glen Hays (Christy).
She is also survived by her father-in-law, George Henson (Connie), mother-in-law Dianne Henson Ellington (Sonny), brother-in-law, Brad Henson (Sue), and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 21st, 2023 at George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home - South Jackson with Maurice Hays officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Malesus, TN.
The family will receive friends at George A. Smith South from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 20th, and 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM service time Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Clayton, Jimmy Collum, Ben Hale, Tim Jones, Steven Reed, Bryon Seaman, Donny Spratlin and Will Young.
Honorary Pallbearers are Christopher Hays, Carter Hays, Brad Henson, Hunter Ross, Mitchell Henson, and Tyler Glenn.
