

Memorial services will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00am at the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church with Reverend John White officiating. The family will receive friends and family Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 5:00pm -8:00pm at George A Smith and Sons North funeral home as well as after the service for a reception in Memorial Hall. A private family burial service will be held prior to the Memorial Service at 10:00 at Ridgecrest cemetery.
Ann was educated in the Humboldt School system. In her young adult life she participated in various beauty pageants in Tennessee and Kentucky.
She was married to Jack Wade Barton for 47 years whom she loved dearly. After being a stay at home mother and housewife, she began her retail career in 1978 at Marks Rothenberg. She soon moved to Parks Belk department stores where she worked for 18 years. Ann loved sharing happy times with her children and grandchildren. She loved the outdoors, watching birds, flowers and gardening as well as cheering for her favorite sports teams… UT Vols and Tennessee Titans.
For over 50 years she was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church. She was involved with a very special group of ladies that call themselves, the Canasta Club. This friendship has spanned several decades. Although they haven’t played cards for many years, the group meets regularly for food, fun and fellowship.
Ann loved being with her family. She often went on trips and vacations with her children and loved spending time at Center Hill Lake. She enjoyed sharing her cooking and had many favorites: pecan pie, caramel pie, potato salad, fried okra and meringue cookies, to name a few.
She is survived by 3 daughters and a son; Nancy (Bill) Flanders of Murfreesboro,TN, Jackie (Jerry) Dotson of Jackson, TN, Lesa McNeal of Jackson, TN and Bryan (Jennifer) Barton of Franklin, TN; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Dotson (fiancé, AJ Eubanks) of Jackson, TN, Lauren (Bryan) Anderson of Cane Ridge, TN, and Carly and Abby McNeal of Jackson, TN, Matthew and Gracie Barton of Franklin, TN; 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob Anderson and Parker Dotson; 4 sisters, Jean Caldwell (Joe)Goad of Jackson, TN, Shirley (James) Welch of Humboldt, TN, Peggy Cooke of Abilene, TX, Virginia Coppedge of Caruthersville, MO and numerous nieces ,nephews and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jack Wade Barton; her parents Frank and Nannie Carter of Humboldt; 3 brothers, John Louis Carter of St. Louis, MO, Booster Carter of St Louis, MO and Travis Carter of Atwood, TN; 2 sisters, Sue Smith of Milan, TN and Mary Darty of Jackson, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1573 N. Highland Ave., Jackson, TN or the charity of their choice. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Brion Randolph and nurse Tracy as well as the nursing staff of 9B, and the Alice and Carl Kirkland Cancer Center at JMCGH for the care they provided our precious mother.
