

He was born on November 24, 1928 in Jackson, TN to the late Ted O. and Lillie Plunk Wells. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from the City of Jackson as a Structural building inspector. Prior to working for the City of Jackson, he was a brick layer and stone mason, and a life member of bricklayers & Allied Craft workers Union.
Mr. Wells was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed teaching his children, grandchildren and friends about the outdoors, spending many happy days camping on the banks of the Tennessee River.
Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Shearin Wells; a son-in-law, Bill Temple; a sister, Mary June Holly and brothers-in-law, Buddy Holly, Vinal Porter, Alan Brewer and Bobby Cain.
He leaves two daughters, Rhonda J. Wells of Jacksonville, FL, and Cecelia Norwood and husband Bill of Yazoo City, MS; two sons, Ted Brion Wells and wife Teri, and James Clayton Wells and wife Sharon, both of Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Henry Wells, Hanna Wells, James Clayton Wells, Jr., Autumn Wells and Hunter Wells; sisters, Colleen Porter of Tewksbury, MA, Betty Brewer, and Patty Simmons and husband Bill, both of Jackson, TN; brother, Van Wells and wife Ruth of Memphis, TN; and sister-in-law, Norma McCarty of Jacksonville, FL.
Visitation will be held in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Liberty Cemetery in McNairy County, with Rev. Drew Brewer officiating.
