

Jerry was born on September 24, 1940 in Madison County, the son of the late Virgil E. and Katherine Jewell Blackwell Rushing. Jerry graduated from South Side High School. He worked thirty-three years for Conalco and was a member of IBEW and IAM. Jerry was a member of Madison Baptist Church where he served as active deacon for fifty-two years; served as Sunday School teacher for youth and Adult Men classes and held positions on various committees. He was past president of the Madison Hall Community Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Alan Rushing; sisters, Bernice Doyle and Brenda Rushing; and four brothers, Leon, George, Jimmy, and Henry Rushing.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years , Claudia Henderson Rushing of Jackson; daughter, Carol of Jackson; grandchildren, Shelby Garrett and Cameron Sweat; and siblings, Shirley Williams, Robert Rushing, and Virgil Rushing, Jr., many nieces and nephews and long- time friend Lee Johnson.
Pallbearers to service are Cameron Sweat, Joshua Garrett, Aaron Warren, Will Warren, Bailey Wooley, Nic Gilbreath, Holden Bennett and Scott Sweat.
Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Madison Baptist Church and Lee Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
