Joe Raymond Harris

Funeral services for Joe Raymond Harris, age 84 of Jackson, will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel with Dr. Bill Simms and Rev. John Norvell officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Harris passed away on January 12, 2016 at his home in Jackson.

He was born January 8, 1932 in Jackson, TN to the late Will and Edith Hearn Harris. He graduated from Steel Private High School. He served 3 years in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed 17 years at Southwest Electric Corporation as a journeyman lineman and an additional 10 years at Townsend Electric Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bemis.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Hornsby Harris; his daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Rusty Taylor of Medon; his grandchildren, Casey and Colten Taylor and Stephen Cody Harris; his brother, Ward Harris and sisters, Frances Grimm, Dorothy Bratcher, Aileen Cain, and Linda Blankenship.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Stephen Joe Harris, and brothers, Ray, Will, Jr., and Paul Harris.

Active pallbearers to serve are Tony Harris, Greg Blankenship, Larry Joe Cain, Glenn Harris, Timmy Harris, and Tracy Harris.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at George A. Smith and Sons South Chapel, (731) 427-5555.
