We were so sorry to hear of Joyce's death.  We were out of town and just heard about it from Bob and Barbara. We will be praying for you and your family and know that God will give you peace in the days ahead.

Joyce was one of the most elegant ladies I have known. She was a wonderful example to all of us of how to live your life for others. My thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy and her family and friends. She will be greatly missed at USJ. I will think of her whenever I smell the laminator! :)

Joyce and I worked together for many years.  She was a fine teacher and a friend. Since moving to Houston I have thought of her often.Now my thoughts are with her family.  She will be missed by lots of folks.   Take good care.

Joyce Higgs touched my life in a way that no one else could.  I pray that I may follow her example in the lives of others.

Joyce Higgs was the reason I learned math well enough to move on from elementary school.  She's the one who made things click, and she spent many hours tutoring me at USJ. I'm very sorry that I missed the funeral; she's one of the key people who changed my life.  Dr. Higgs is another.

My love and prayers are with you, Jimmy, Clark and Candy and your family.  I so wish I could be with you today.

Joyce was my dear childhood friend from as far back as I can remember.  She was the sister I never had until she became my sorority sister at UT.
We lived across the street from each other. We were in and out of each other's homes so much until we hardly knew the difference in the two.  I remember her falling in love with you, Jimmy.  We were in each other's wedding and though we lived far apart all of our adult life, we stayed close.  I have wonderful memories of the fun, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, sometimes sad times of our lives.  She often sent me recipes...she was such a good cook...and travel recommendations from the great trips you and she took. I will miss her more than I can say.  But I will think of her each time I eat cornbread that she could cook better than I, or sorgham molasses with soft butter mixed up in it until it pops that I ate at her parents' home until there were no biscuits left. I will think of her when I look at hybrid day lillies that she grew in abundance.  And I will keep her always in my heart.

This wonderful lady worked in our office as a JMCGH volunteer, and she always graced us with her smile.  She will be missed.

Joyce was my very dear friend, beginning with our years together teaching at Old Hickory Academy.  She taught my son, who  remembers her with much affection.  Joyce and I maintained that friendship in all the years since, as I moved around the country.  I remember fondly our adventures together, our long lunches in Memphis, our laughs, her Barry Manilow phase, most recently Jersey Boys, I hear.  She meant so much to me.  I will miss her wit, her common sense, her good advice, her keen sense of humor, her tender heart....forever.

Mrs.  Higgs was a wonderful person.  She embodied the true meaning of an educator - one who is supposed to change the lives of others through their education.  She will be missed.  Dr. Higgs, my prayers are with you all.  God bless you, and may His peace comfort you.  In Christ, Joey Moore

joyce was always one of my favorites!!! we taught together from 1974-1982. I loved her! She was always the same: always had a smile and something sweet to say.  She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Mrs. Higgs was one of the finest people I've ever known.  She not only taught me how to teach, but she taught me how to be a true teacher.  We talked often, the last time being only 3 days before she died.  We talked about what we were each going to serve our families for Thanksgiving.  She loved her family!  She enjoyed cooking and just sitting and talking to people.  I told her I loved her when we got off the phone that day.  I am so glad I took the time to call her and tell her that.  She was my friend. I will miss her deeply.

Mrs. Higgs will always be remembered and greatly missed.  Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.  She was my 3rd grade teacher and lefted a lasting impression on the lives she touched. I truly enjoyed seeing her smiling face at USJ.
