She was a dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend and a brilliant and energetic light who left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Born in 1964 in Clarksdale, MS to the late Bill and Henrietta Brown, Karen was the third of four children -the only girl.
For over thirty years, Karen worked as a nurse, most often in elderly care facilities. A favorite of her patients, she was dedicated to showing them dignity, respect, and true compassion.
Karen enjoyed going to new places and experiencing new things. She loved a good glass of red wine, crossword puzzles, a well-planned outfit, and was most at peace by the ocean. Well known for her loud and infectious laughter, she was quick with hugs, and even quicker with her wit. Incredibly generous, it was rare to leave her presence without a gift in hand. Throughout her life, Karen remained steadfastly committed in her faith and love of God.
Known affectionately by them as “Tay Tay,” Karen could often be found playing on the floor with her grandchildren whom she adored. Her favorite moments in her life were when her family was gathered all together.
Karen is predeceased by her mother and father, Bill and Henrietta Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Rickey Quarles, daughters Summer Boylan (Zak) and Autumn Flores (Tyler), grandchildren Bash, Bear, Charlie, and Phoebe, brothers Jeff Brown, Barry Brown, and Stephen Brown, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home on Saturday February 24, 2024 at 12:00 pm with a reception to follow at Century Farm Winery.
Given her love of children and battle with cancer, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s hospital in lieu of flowers.
