He was born on October 2, 1926 in Jackson, TN, the son of the late John Thomas Rushton and Louella Owens Rushton. He was a member of Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church of Jackson where he served as an usher for many years. He was retired from Midsouth Textiles where he worked for 48 years as a maintenance foreman. He served in the U.S. Navy and National Guard. He enjoyed golfing and read his bible through every year.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Melba Altona (Williams) Rushton; three brothers, Carter Rushton, Ray Slayden Rushton, and John Thomas Rushton; six sisters, Mary Ethelyn Rushton Thompson, Katherine Rushton Moore, Ruby Marie Rushton Murphy, Lula Hortense Rushton Little, Dorothy Pauline Rushton Jowers, and Ola Mai Rushton Harper.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas Leon Rushton of West Sacramento, CA and Richard Glenn Rushton of Jackson, TN; one daughter, Barbara Swatley of Ripley, MS; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Rushton will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Rev. Ron Brown and Rev. Charles Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
