Pauline (Polly) Taber Carter died peacefully in her sleep after a sudden illness on August 17, 2018. A devoted mother and advocate for children, Pauline Taber Carter was born on May 15, 1942 in Jackson, Tennessee. The daughter of William Russell Taber and Genevieve Wall Taber, she graduated from Jackson High School in 1960 and attended the University of Tennessee.
Polly was a dedicated supporter of the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Its Taber-Carter Child Advocacy Center was named to honor the contributions that Polly and her family made to support the children of West Tennessee. For her efforts, the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation awarded her with the Jackson Award for Volunteer Service in 2011.
She founded Highland House Productions with her longtime partner, Wes Henley. She managed the office until she had a stroke in 2006, and continued to love and support music her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Adam Carter, and her former husband, Senator Bobby Carter.
She is survived by her children, Genny Carter & Russ (Krista) Carter, her partner Wes Henley, all of Jackson, her sister Genny (Ray) deSola of Houston, brother Bill Taber, Jr. of Franklin; grandchildren Lauren and Chris, great-granddaughter Kinsley, several beloved nieces and nephews and their families, and her longtime caregiver and friend, Diane Mayo Green.
Services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Wednesday August 22, 2018 in the North Chapel of Georgia A. Smith and Sons with burial to follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 3:00 pm
