Rachel Alexander Stowe, age 94, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on November 30, 2015, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson, graduating from the former Jackson High School in 1939. Her parents were the late W. C. Alexander and Frances Josephine Flake Alexander. Rachel worked at the Piggly Wiggly Factory, and, after staying at home with her children as they were growing up, she became a Textile Clerk at the Bemis Company. On September 27, 1946, she married the late James Stowe, who passed away in 1989. Rachel was fortunate to have lived in the house that she and James built until her recent, short illness. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Bemis, until her health declined. There was nothing that Rachel would not do to be of service to her Lord and her church. Surviving are two daughters, Jane Williams and Emily Dorris; three grandchildren, Jason Williams, Laurel Dorris, and Katy Ellis; and two great grandchildren, Anna Kathryn and Charlotte Elyse Ellis. She was pre-deceased by her parents; a sister, Mary Alexander, and her husband. Rachel was a devoted Christian lady who provided an example of love and service as her legacy.
There will be a short visitation at George Smith and Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, from 12:30-1:30pm, Friday, December 4, 2015, followed by a graveside service at 2:00pm at Ridgecrest Cemetery with Dr. Bill Sims officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church, Bemis.
