

Born July 8, 1942, in McNairy County, Tennessee, Sarge lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and deep devotion to his family.
Sarge retired from International Paper as production manager after 38 years of service. He was respected for his steady leadership, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence. His colleagues knew him as a dependable and thoughtful presence—someone who cared deeply about the people he worked alongside.
Sarge served in the National Guard for 8 years. Sarge was a Master Mason and a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #45 for 55 years.
Sarge had a special interest in music and played guitar and upright bass. He was a charter member of the Jackson Area Plectral Society. Sarge made many lifelong friends through playing and promoting old time music.
Sarge’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship where he found unity and love with a family of faithful believers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Marion McCann and Sarah Elizabeth Plunk McCann.
Sarge is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Webb McCann; his son, Philip Arthur McCann; and his stepdaughter, Andrea Winchester (Lee). He leaves behind cherished grandchildren who brought him great joy: Harrison Arthur McCann, Anna Claire McKnight (Devin), Carson Winchester and great grandson Hudson McKnight. He is also survived by two beloved brothers, Jerry McCann (Shelby) and Gary McCann (Kathy), along with several nieces, nephews and a host of cousins whom he cared for deeply.
A service to celebrate the life of Sargent McCann will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Bill Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.
Sarge will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him
