

Agnes Blanchard Bennett, age 89, of Jacksonville, Florida, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, with her son by her side. She was born June 6, 1926, on a small farm in Rose Hill, North Carolina to the late Ernest and Nora Blanchard. She went off to Pineland College at age 17, the same year her Dad died. After receiving a two-year college degree, she went to work for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, now CSX, where she worked for 40 years. After retirement, she stayed involved with many non-profit organizations, church activities, and President of Railroad Retirement Board. Agnes and Max were married for 61 years before his passing in 2009.
Agnes is survived by her son, Charlie, and his wife, Beverly of Altamonte Springs, Florida and her sister, Betty Wallace, of Buies Creek, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Ernie in 2010, who was married to Kathy Wright Bennett, and still lives in Middleburg, Florida. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 15, at 2:00 pm in the main sanctuary of Southside United Methodist Church, 3120 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, Florida. Refreshments will be served in the breezeway, by the Chapel, immediately following the service. Agnes asked for any contributions to be given to The Heart Fund and the First United Methodist Children’s Home in Enterprise, Florida.
