

Alice Heston Gibson, 86, Jacksonville native, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 8, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Maurice (Mike) Gibson, her parents Paul and Lillian (Holden) Heston, and her three brothers, Linden, Charlie, and Paul.
Alice was salutatorian at Landon High School, attended Wesleyan College, and received her degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University). As a young lady she worked for Florida Congressman Charles Bennett in Washington, D.C. There she met her future husband whose Air Force career would take them all over the world, returning to Jacksonville for good upon retirement in 1977.
She loved collecting antiques and quilting, and was a neighborhood champion. Part of one of the pioneering Jacksonville families, her grandparents built what is currently the oldest continuously occupied house in Jacksonville, and the house in which she currently lived was built by other family members more than 100 years ago. She maintained a number of lifelong Jacksonville friendships.
Surviving are her only son, David (Cara) Gibson of Suwanee, Georgia, three grandchildren, Alison, Bailey and Michael and many dear friends and family.
Services will be held on Monday, March 12 at 11:00 am at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, Fl. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
