It is with great sorrow and unsurpassable joy to announce that Andrew “Barry” Carnes devoted husband, father, son, brother, fraternal brother and friend arrived in glory to the house of his Heavenly Father on the evening of Saturday, February 6, 2021.
Barry courageously fought Mantle Cell Lymphoma prior to his retirement from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office where he served as a Police Officer for over 24 years. While the physical, bodily battle appeared lost, Barry ultimately won the war. He received the gift of Divine Adoption through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion and entered the Holy Catholic Church to the delight of his family and friends who look forward with great anticipation to his future bodily resurrection in Christ Jesus.
Barry is survived by his wife, Melanie and their two children, his parents Ed and Inez Carnes, his sisters Pamela Holmes Simpson (Scott), Cindy Fowler (Chris), his brother Ron Carnes, many aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and second cousins.
The family wishes to thank all who contributed to their care during this difficult time by their prayers and works of mercy, by recognizing in a special way, the clergy and parishioners of San Juan del Rio Catholic Church who prayed unceasingly for Barry and his family and took care of all their material and spiritual needs, Sister Molly and the nuns of her order, Deacon Mac Hill, San Juan del Rio Catholic School, Mike and Mary Anne Orenchuk, Mary and Joe Humphrey, Lou and Anita Petrelli, Mike and Marcia Rogero, the Fisher family, the Hancock family, Dr. Cathy Hartley, the Carnes’ Eastgate neighbors especially Jim and Michelle Clark and their family, the Egger Family, the Nystrom Family, the Colson Family, Andre and Charmaine Brooks and Toni and Lou Bilello. We would also like to recognize the stellar support we received from The Jacksonville Sheriffs Office, The Fraternal Order of Police, Gibney Law Firm, the Family for Life Ministry, blood and plasma donors, Florida Cancer Specialists’ doctors, nurses and staff and Mayo Clinic’s priest, Father Charles, the Mayo Clinic doctors, nurses, techs and janitorial staff who became our great support system during his hospitalization fighting alongside us and tenderly caring for all of our needs.
A public viewing is available from 5pm to 6pm followed by prayers from 6pm to 7pm this Friday, February 12, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home Mandarin located at 11801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32223. Masks are required in the funeral home.
