Ann Wise Crenshaw passed away on October 27, 2022, at the age of 92, after being challenged with multiple progressive age-related conditions. Born on December 1, 1929, to Rex Morgan and Sarah Baker Wise in Dothan, Alabama, she was the younger sister to Harry Lawson Wise, and younger cousin to Elizabeth Byrd Tolleson. After graduating high school, Ann worked as a bank teller and in 1956 moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she met Edgar McCarthy Crenshaw, a graduate student at Georgia Tech; the two were married at Grace United Methodist Church in 1959. After completing his degree in architecture, the couple moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he worked as an architect for over 35 years before he died in 1997. Early on, Ann continued her work as a bank teller with Atlantic National Bank, and then later worked as an elementary school clerk at San Jose Elementary until her retirement in 1994. Ann and Ed were dedicated members at Lakewood United Methodist Church where Ed’s ashes remain in the church’s Memory Garden. Together they volunteered with HabiJax, coordinating site workers and assisting new home owners. They were a part of “Friday Friends”, a group of church members who met weekly to socialize over dinner and dessert for more than 40 years. They raised 3 children and now have 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She later continued to find great joy helping others through participation with Meals on Wheels and Seniors on a Mission. At the church, she was a devoted member assisting with church operations and event coordination. In 2018, she moved to Westminster Woods on Julington Creek where she has enjoyed living independently, surrounded by supportive and loving neighbors and friends.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and The Rev. Dr. Stuart Gulley; son, Dr. Steven Crenshaw (Sue, deceased) and Theresa McEntire; and daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and John Guarisco; grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Gulley, Ashley and Joshua Crenshaw, Ryan (Nicole) Guarisco, Mallory and Morgan Guarisco; great grandchildren Logan and Conner Guarisco.
