Anna Elizabeth Wimpee Champeau, 80, was born in Jacksonville, Fla on July 25, 1945 to Fred M and Mae Wimpee. Ann spent her entire life as a resident of Jacksonville barring the last couple of years in assisted memory care facilities in Volusia county. She passed into heaven’s gates on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at John Knox Village, Orange City, Florida.
Ann grew up in Southside Jacksonville, graduated from DuPont High School Class of 1963, and attended Wake Forest University in North Carolina. She returned to Jacksonville to help in the family business, Wimpee Distributing Co, met and married Daniel L Champeau, who preceded her in death in 2011.
She and Dan, on one of their travels discovered Door County in Wisconsin and loved it so much they bought a second home there. Go Packers! They fully enjoyed it, taking her three little cousins (then children) on plane flights for some summer weeks there for many years. Ann called herself “Grannie Annie” to them.
Ann and Dan did their “mid life crisis” together when they took up motorcycling. Ann insisted on having a “Harley” for herself and rode hers like a pro. They took in lots of scenery in their “digs”.
Ann also loved tennis and both played and followed professional matches.
Ann was a lifetime member of Southside Baptist Church, now Aspire Church, which she was faithful to, supported, and worked in the nursery for several years. She and Dan were also married there.
She intensely loved her family and close friends, especially Tom and Barbara Dice. She was always interested in people and their needs.
Ann is survived by two close first cousins, H. Don Hall (Susan), Deland, Florida and Carolyn Murphey (Duke), Gainesville, Florida. She was deeply loved and shared actively in the lives of cousins Joshua Hall (Ashley) son Colton, Nichole O’Quinn (Joe) children Paige O’Quinn, Morgan Deppen, and Josie O’Quinn as well as Glen Murphey (Magdalena) Kayla Murphey (Sean), Lindsey Murphey, Zosia Murphey and Kris Murphey and newly born to the family Eli and Beckham.
