

Benjamin Zimmerman passed away peacefully on 12/03/2015 after a brief illness. He is survived by his daughter Carol Rabb, his son, Paul Zimmerman MD (Rachel), his granddaughter Ashley Dender (Ryan), his granddaughters Angelina and Giselle Zimmerman, his grandson, Jay Zimmerman and three great grandchildren, Reed, Cade and Bailey Dender.
Ben was born in Brooklyn, NY. During the Great Depression in 1937, his family moved to Cheyenne, WY. At age 16 he went to Engineering School at the Univ of WY. Then in 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. During WWII he was sent for education and training at Yale, Harvard and MIT. He completed his Chemical Engineering degree after WWII but chose to become a General Contractor with his father. In 1947 his family again moved, this time to Jacksonville, FL. He met the love of his life, Sylvia Rothstein, and got married in 1951. They had a daughter (Carol) and a son (Paul). He and Sylvia dedicated their life to raising their children and then their granddaughter Ashley. They were blessed with 3 more grandchildren (Angel, Jay and Gigi) and 3 great grandchildren (Reed, Cade and Bailey).
Ben eventually became a Real Estate Broker and Developer and after retiring in his late 70's, a Bailiff. He worked in the courthouse for 15 yrs enjoying the comradery and friendship of his coworkers, as well as many of the attorneys and judges. He was also active as a member of the Lions Club and a longtime member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center.
Ben was well liked by everyone. His gentle demeanor, intellect and kind disposition was appreciated by all who knew him. He will continue to live through his family and the many people whose lives he touched.
Ben’s funeral service was held Friday, December 4, 2015 in the Old Center Cemetery located in Jacksonville, FL. With Rabbi Howard Tilman officiating
