On Wednesday, August 12, 2020, Bernadette “Bernie” Margaret Leahy Hahn, a loving and devoted mother and wife, passed away suddenly at the age of 70. Bernadette was born on May 14, 1950 to Arleen Leahy, née Schumacher, and Robert Leahy in Schenectady, NY. She grew up in Niskayuna, NY and received her bachelor’s degree in English literature from the State University of New York at Albany in 1972. On August 18, 1982, she married Charles Allen Hahn in Tulsa, OK. Together, they raised one son, Nicholas Robert Hahn, in Oklahoma, New York, and ultimately Jacksonville, FL, where they made their home. Over their 38 years of marriage, Bernie remained deeply grateful for Charlie as a committed husband and father, and for his unfailing support of their family.
Bernadettte had a great passion for finance and investing, working in many challenging roles within the industry throughout her career. Even after her retirement, she was an active investor and avid follower of dynamic business and market developments. She was known for her quick wit, compassion, and kindness, an infectious smile, her singular sense of style, a “world famous memory,” and her indefatigable spirit. Of her many remarkable talents, she was most proud of her role as a mother to her son, Nick.
Bernadette was preceded in death by her mother, Arleen, her father, Robert, and her younger sister, Kathleen Doane. She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Hahn, her son, Nicholas Hahn, and his partner, Christine Sellers, of Jacksonville, FL; and her loving sister, Barbara Leahy, and her partner, Jeffrey Hurley, of Niskayuna, NY.
The family will hold private services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal--a tradition Bernadette carried on in the name of her grandmother, Margaret Schumacher. Corey-Kerlin in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
