

Betty Talbott Gentry, age 97, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on January 18, 2016. Betty has lived in Jacksonville since 1998 but was a long time resident of Marco Island Florida having moved there in 1969 with her late husband, William S. Gentry. For many years they were actively engaged in civic affairs on the island.
Betty was born on August 14, 1918 in Wichita, Kansas, daughter of William A. Talbott III and Flora Templeton Talbott. She attended Wichita State University and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
While living in Marco Island, Betty was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, was enrolled as an Honorary Life-time Charter member of the Art League of Marco Island, was the founding chair of the annual Craft Fair, member of the Fine Arts Council. She was granted a life-time honorary membership in the Forum Club of Southwest Florida in which she had been the assistant to her husband Bill who was founder and executive director. She was also historian of the Calusa Garden Club of Marco Island.
Betty is survived by sons, Peter (Louise) and Thomas (Tania); grandsons, Thomas Jr., Gregory, and Marc of Jacksonville; granddaughter Stacey Gentry Lucas (Trey) of Decatur, Georgia and 7 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31st at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour, 12236 Mandarin Road, Jacksonville with the Rev. Joseph Gibbes presiding.
Interment will be in the Memorial Garden of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Marco Island Florida.
