Beverly Stein Goldstein, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the age of 86. Beverly was a native of Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Jacksonville as a child. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1950, Phi Beta Kappa.
While at UF, she met her future husband, S. William (Bill). Bill and Beverly returned to Jacksonville where they raised their family and became actively involved in the community. They were married for over 57 years until Bill’s passing in 2008.
She was most proud of her four children, Dr. Jeffrey (Doris) Goldstein, Nancie (Mark) Severs of Lebanon, NH, Janet Goldstein and Lynn (Leonardo) Maiman. Always the volunteer mom, Beverly was equally proud of and involved with her ten grandchildren: Ellen (Houman) Hemmati, Aliza and Max Goldstein, Aaron (Megan), Noah (Sumalai), and David Severs, Ilan Goldstein and Faye, Neil and Elana Maiman; and her great-grandchild Terran William Severs. In recent years, Beverly cherished her relationships with her dedicated and loving caregivers Ruby, Luz M., Lili, Luz G, and the rest of the caring team.
From 1966 until retirement age Beverly worked as a career counselor for the State of FL and at Florida Community College Jacksonville. She truly loved her job and would often speak about the students she was able to help find gainful employment. During the 1960’s Beverly was appointed to serve on the Jacksonville Community Relations Council, which was charged with improving race relations in Jacksonville. Beverly also served for many years on the Board of Directors of Jewish Family and Community Services and was very active in the agency’s resettlement program for immigrants from the Soviet Union during the 1980s. Beverly was an active member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center and Congregation Ahavath Chesed.
Beverly enjoyed visiting Camp Louise (Circle 1948) in Cascade, MD, for annual reunions, having spent years as both a camper and staff member. She loved animals, particularly poodles. During the last decade she would always be seen with her beloved poodle, “Mazel” who provided her with much enjoyment. Mazel proudly volunteered with Beverly at the Baptist Medical Center Healing Library and River Garden Hebrew Home.
