I never had the Colonel for a teacher but he was always a prominent part of the every day scene.  Rest in peace, sir.

Colonel was the most amazing teacher ever! Every teacher wishes they could be like him having the love, respect and admiration from their students. I remember some of the things he used to say to me and my best friend and to all of his students. If you got a hair cut he would ask "Did you get your ears lowered?", he would help my friend over the thresh hold every morning because he said she was so skinny she might fall through the crack and another thing I remember, he would tell you real quick it wasn't a Civil War it was a War Between the States. I will never forget him saying that! He was a very special teacher. When the Lee fire happened Elizabeth and I went to see him and the school. I said to him "Colonel, the fire didn't destroy anything in your room, you got lucky." and he replied "it wasn't luck, it was Robert E. Lee's Spirit that saved my room". The fire stopped right before his room and he only had a little water damage (the fire wall was there). He was happy his stuff was saved. I told him at our 30 year reunion Aug 2015 that he was my absolute favorite teacher ever and I have always loved history because of my dad and him. Colonel you will always be in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers to the family. God Bless you. You will be missed.

The last entry was from Cheryl and Carter Bryan class of 1963

Carter and I were so upset to have missed this wonderful man's funeral.  He was our bright light everyday in high school.  He made us feel so important and like we were his good friends.  He always had a smile for us and a helping hand.  One of Carter's most favorite memories was raising the Confederate Flag with him to celebrate the birthday of Robert E Lee, which also happened to be Carter's birthday. Life would be so wonderful if it could be enriched by having more "colonels" like him.  May God be with his family and bless this new "angel" in heaven.  We will certainly miss him on earth.  Thank you Bobby Lee for making our lives so happy especially in high school.  Love you

What an AWESOME teacher Colonel was! Both me and my Wife, Elizabeth, will say our favorite ever. Like another message read, he DID remember his students. Two years ago,I ran into him for the first time since I graduated in 1985. When I said who I was, he quickly said. "You went on to join the Air Force." My Wife and I were SO glad we got to see him at our 30 year reunion and at the hospital before he passed. Because of Colonel....LOL....Extra credit will always be..."Stand on your head in the corner and stack 10 greasy BBs, wearing boxing gloves. Our thoughts and prayers to Colonel's family.

We could certainly use more teachers with the knowledge of American History that Colonel shared with his students. He was definitely the most gifted and my favorite teacher who made history fun to learn.
He had many relics of the War Between the States (as he identified it according to history) including a uniform that the Lee High Generals Mascot wore for many years. 
He had so many students over the years and amazingly remembered details of our classes.  When Lee High caught on fire, on of his former students, a first responder on the scene, saw Colonel and asked what to save if he could get to his classroom. Colonel asked for artwork, his most precious collection.
I was amazed to attend an all-year reunion a few years ago where Colonel was the featured guest. Not only did he remember me, he remembered my siblings, what grades I made and knew of my sister's death from 1977! 
An amazing man and a truly dedicated professional who loved teaching.  
Rest in peace, teacher!  You have served so well and will remain in my mind and heart.

He was the Colonel. I remember always love going to class. He was my favorite teacher. My prayers to the family.

He will always be remembered as a favorite teacher and I'm sure I'm not the only one!!
