

Carol Field Agress passed away May 26 2023 at the age of 99 . Born in New York City 1924 later moving to Cedarhurst Long Island where she grew up . Her father Bennet A Field was an oral surgeon, and her mother Tillie Field taught English at Syracuse U. Carol later attended Syracuse University. Carol was the oldest of three children, having younger twin brother and sister — Walter Field and Betty Field Aster, preceding her in death. Carol was an avid reader, bridge player and good golfer. She learned to waterski over age 45. She was friends with Richard Feynman , atomic scientist. She married Bernard D Agress DDS around 1951 , after meeting on a New York subway after he returned from WW2. They had 2 children: Bonnie , married to Rick Purpura of Jacksonville Fla and Richard , married to Yolanda of Seattle Wa.. Bernie was transferred with the VA from New York to Winston Salem NC for dental practice around 1953. There they raised the family and were a strong part of the Jewish and broader community. While in Winston Salem, she was president of Hadassah and member of Temple Emanuel . She always instilled a strong ethic of right and wrong in her children and a strong Jewish identity. Carol and Bernie later retired to Jacksonville Florida around 1980. She is survived by 5 grandchildren Jennifer Woodling , Rachel Haines , Sarah Purpura Rose, Bernie Agress , Caroline Agress, Sally Agress and 4 great grandchildren Haley and Jacob Haines , Cole and Olivia Woodling .
