Carol Neville Jervis was born on January 22, 1937, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Katherine Bensel and Ogden Wayne Jervis. Her mother was a schoolteacher and her father an engineer. Carol entered the world so tiny that her father often joked she came home “in a cigar box,” a story she carried with her throughout her life.
At the age of 18, Carol married the love of her life, Robert “Neal” Alexander. Shortly after their wedding, the newlyweds moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where Neal served in the United States Air Force. After four cold years in Alaska, they relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where Neal attended the University of Alabama and their first daughter was born.
In 1962, the family moved to Winter Park, Florida, welcoming their second daughter. Soon after, they settled permanently in Jacksonville, Florida, where they built a life filled with community and cherished friendships. They loved being part of a close-knit neighborhood and an active bridge club.
Carol worked at Episcopal High School as a librarian and later as an executive assistant, roles she took on with dedication so she could provide private school education for her daughters. After retirement, Carol and Neal traveled extensively—cruising, exploring the mainland, and visiting countries around the world. Of all the places they visited, Prague remained their favorite. Their travels came to an unexpected pause when they were stranded in Seattle during 9/11. They also treasured their two timeshares in the mountains of North Carolina, where they spent spring and fall enjoying the beauty of the mountain roads.
Creative and talented, Carol loved painting, needlework, and all forms of crafting. She and Neal were active members of the Unity Class at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, where they developed many loving and lasting friendships.
Carol adored her grandchildren and rarely missed their academic or sporting events. In her later years, she devoted herself to caring for Neal as he battled Alzheimer’s disease. Married for 69 years, the two shared a deep and abiding love. After Neal’s passing in January 2025, Carol continued on with grace and a joyful spirit, though she missed him dearly and longed to be reunited with him in glory.
Carol is survived by her two daughters and their spouses: Chery Lynne Stippler (Timothy) and Tracy Denise Sanders (Robert Maraffi); her four grandchildren: Vincent Stippler (Madison), Kayleigh Shaver (Cole), Kory Sanders (Hannah), and Sydney Stippler; and her three great-grandchildren: Carolina, Casen, and Grady. She is also survived by her sister Kathy Edwards (Jim), along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A service honoring Carol’s life will be held at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Legacy Lodge, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Fl, 32207, on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will be held from 10a.m. – 11a.m. prior to the service.
Our deepest thanks from the family go out to Harbor Chase - Mandarin for all the support they provided to both Carol and Neal over the past few years.
In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to Fruit Cove Baptist Church in honor of Carol Alexander.
