Carol Jean Baldwin Clarke, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 6, 2025. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on February 13, 1939, she was raised in the Riverside area and graduated from Landon High School in 1957. In 1959, she moved to Miami, Florida, where she worked as a flight attendant for National Airlines. She dedicated 21 years to her career at National Airlines. After getting married and starting a family, Carol returned to Jacksonville in 1981, where she worked as a nanny for over 30 years. She finally "retired" at 69 to embrace her most treasured role as a grandmother in 2008. Carol is survived by her daughter, Christina Groger (Scott Groger), her two grandchildren, Jason Groger and Caitlyn Groger, and her nephews, Bryan Baldwin and Blake Baldwin.
Carol cherished her family deeply, but truly loved all children. Although she had only one child, she was grateful for the opportunity to help raise many other children during her time as a nanny. One of her favorite sayings was, "A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child." She adored her grandchildren, Jason and Caitlyn, and regarded her time as their grandmother as the most joyful part of her life. Carol held fond memories of her years as a flight attendant and often shared fantastic stories from that time. She always enjoyed the sight and sound of airplanes flying by.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14, at Englewood Christian Church, located at 4316 Barnes Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Englewood Christian Church.
