

He was born on July 2, 1915 in Jacksonville, FL, son of Cecil Curtis Collins, Sr., and Nora Belle Frances Collins. Dr. Collins graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, Duke University with a B.S. degree, and Duke Medical School. He served as a full commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II on board the battleship Missouri. Dr. Collins completed his residency and internship in general surgery at Cincinnati General Hospital. He returned to practice medicine in Jacksonville in 1953 and served as chief of staff at St. Lukes Hospital.
Dr. Collins is survived by his wife, Mercy Lee Jones Collins; his sister, Francis Swindell; his daughter, Jan Collins Marino; a son, Charles Frances Collins; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. His son, Cecil Curtis Collins, III (Bud) preceded him in death.
A celebration of life service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4171 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, Fl, on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gee Alexander officiating
