A man of few words, but so many beautiful and meaningful actions, Charles “Chuck” Parker Ingersoll, Jr., 76 years old, of Jacksonville, Florida, peacefully went to be with the Lord while at home, surrounded by his loving family on January 4, 2025.
Chuck was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on May 1, 1948 to Charles Parker Ingersoll, Sr. and Helen Parsells Ingersoll. While he was a small child, the family relocated to Miami, Florida where Chuck spent his childhood, graduating from Hialeah High. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Vietnam with the 37th ARRS Jolly Green Giants. He served from June 1966 - September 1970. On July 15, 1972, Chuck married the love of his life, Cheryl Foster, in a small and intimate ceremony at his sister’s house in Coral Gables.
Chuck and Cheryl couldn’t wait to start their family, and their children meant the world to them. After adopting Cheryl’s daughter, Cherie, shortly after they married, Chuck and Cheryl welcomed their second daughter Christy in February of 1974, and in August of 1976, their son Craig arrived. Chuck loved being a father to his three kids, and relished his role of being Grandpa and Papa to their children’s children. He treasured his time with his grandkids, Abby, Jesse, Trinity, Sebastian, Gabriel, and his great grandchild, Skylar. He has also been a father and grandfather to his daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, and grandson-in-law, Shawn (Cherie), Dale (Christy), Angela (Craig) and John (Jesse). He was a fountain of wisdom for his adult children, and always gave of his time and energy whenever it was needed.
Chuck was a lineman for AT&T (formally Southern Bell) for 43 years. He was an avid hunter for many years and enjoyed action shooting, growing his tomatoes and peppers, creating his own hot sauce, and enjoying Tuesday morning breakfasts with his treasured buddies. He was a member of Mandarin Baptist Church, and was the designated “coffee guy” prepping the brew before every Sunday School meeting. He was the rockstar of their street’s cul-de-sac, sharing many outdoor conversations with neighbors turned dearest friends.
Chuck had a soft spot for his beloved pets, treating each one, over the years, like the valuable family members that they were. Sheba, Candy, Kudzu, Kimber, Daisy, Dixie, and now his beloved Bella, who misses her Daddy, dearly.
Chuck will always be remembered for his incredibly sharp wit, generous heart, and profound wisdom. He was a genuine and beautiful man who said what he meant and meant what he said. We couldn’t have asked for a better human being to have graced our lives with his immense presence and will miss him every day. Chuck’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him and were blessed enough to have him in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Parker Ingersoll, Sr.; mother, Helen Carter, and stepfather, Fred Carter.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 52 years, Cheryl Ingersoll; daughters, Cherie and Christy; son, Craig; his beloved grandchildren Abby, Jesse, Trinity, Sebastian, Gabriel; great granddaughter, Skylar; and his amazing sisters, Cathy Constantine and Bobbi Stone.
Chuck lived out his faith in Christ in very tangible ways, through his actions and love for others. He was the true Patriarch of his family, leaving a legacy of love.
