September 29, 2014, after a sudden yet brief battle with cancer. Chris
leaves behind a rare and enduring mark on her family, her friends, her
profession and her community.
Chris received her undergraduate degree from the University of Central
Florida and in 1975 graduated from the University of Florida College of
Law. She began her career with the Milam and Wilbur firm which became
Mahoney Hadlow & Adams and then McGuire Woods where she served as Managing
Partner. In 2009, Chris accepted a position as Senior Vice President for
corporate litigation with Fidelity National Financial where she practiced
the remainder of her career. Chris was a member of The Florida Bar and was
admitted as a lawyer to several state and federal courts.
Chris was active in the legal community and served on the Florida Bar Board
of Governors and was Chair of the Commercial Litigation Committee of the
Florida Bar. She was also a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association and
a Master with the Chester Bedell Inn of Court. Within the Jacksonville
civic community, Chris served on the JEA Board from 2002-2006 and at the
time of her death, was serving on the Board of Directors of Baptist Medical
Center Jacksonville. She had also served on the Board of Directors of the
YMCA and was a member of the Jacksonville Women's Network. Chris was
honored as an EVE Award finalist in the employment category and was a
founding member of the Jacksonville Food and Wine Society.
An avid and well respected wine connoisseur, Chris enjoyed sharing her vast
knowledge and love of wine with her friends, especially during adventures
to both wine country and to some of the nation's premiere wine and food
events. She had a special gift in this regard and loved sharing her
passion with those closest to her.
Chris's surviving family includes her mother Better Rieger; her daughter
Ashley Milton Cullop and her son-in-law Benjamin Cullop; and her precious
granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Cullop, whom Chris was proud to help welcome
into this world on April 28, 2014. Chris was predeceased by her father and
brother.
A celebration of Chris's life will take place in the near future and in
lieu of donations or flowers, Chris's family and friends ask that a glass
of wine be raised in her honor and memory.
