Christopher (Chris) A. Potter found his peace on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. His fight to be healthy was long and arduous, yet he never complained and he passed with a heart filled with gratitude for 55 years of life.
Born December 18, 1968 to James Floyd Potter (pre-deceased) and Barbara (Bobbie) Potter (surviving) on an Air Force base in Nebraska, Chris spent the last 40+ years in the Jacksonville, Florida, area. He graduated from both Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, Jacksonville, and Flagler College, St. Augustine, Florida.
His sister, Terri Austin (deceased) held a very special place in his heart and he cared for her deeply. Chris is survived by his husband and partner of 28 years, James “Jim” Burnett of St John’s, Florida. He also survived by 3 older brothers and their wives: Pete and Pam Potter, Jim and Sheila Potter, and Chip and Angel Potter. Chris was very fond of his niece, Chrissy, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Chris also leaves behind many devoted and longtime dear friends and neighbors.
Chris enjoyed his work at Mayo Clinic over the last 28 years, but also worked two - sometimes 3 - jobs over many years. He had an incredible work ethic and co-authored a sleep research article published in the American Journal of Medicine.
Chris (aka "P-Nut") had many talents/skills: he could sing beautifully and enjoyed music immensely; loved home interior decorating and crafting; enjoyed television and movies; he gave great care and love to his pets over the years; but his greatest personal joy, was making friends - and strangers - laugh. He was good at making folks laugh. It is how he celebrated life, by bringing so much joy to others.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at The Legacy Lodge at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
There will be no church or graveside services and please respect that this celebration is a 'mature' event.
