

Christos George Mavrantzas, 81, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born in Argos Orestiko (Xroupista), Kastoria, West Macedonia, Greece, he immigrated to the United States in 1956.
He was a retired United States Navy Chief Petty Officer and served proudly from 1959-1979. He was stationed in Iceland, Italy, Greece, & the Panama Canal Zone, where he met the love of his life and wife of 52 years Julia Gonzalez. He retired out of SIMA (Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity) at Mayport, Florida. After his military service he was a welder, painter, and worked in the restaurant business with his best friend of 60 years Lefteris “Teddy” Thiliveros. He attended St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church and volunteered with his friends in the church kitchen. He loved to travel and visited so many countries throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Gonzalez, son Jorge Gonzalez (Barbara), daughter Elizabeth Tablada (Alan), and son George Mavrantzas (Ashley); grandchildren, Jorge Gonzalez Jr. (Abigail), Jennifer Ortiz (Alex), AJ Tablada, Ridge Tablada, Alexander Tablada, Reed Tablada, Christos Mavrantzas, and Liam Mavrantzas; and great grandchildren, Sophia, Lyric, Lyla, Stella, Lucy, Storie, Aliyana, and Jaylise. He was preceded in death by father, George Mavrantzas; mother Eleftheria Bretmiri; son, Marcos Gonzalez; and brother Dimitris Mavrantzas.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17th in St. John The Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 12760 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville FL with Reverend Dr. Nicholas G. Louh, as officiant, followed by interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32207.
